Alexander Alfred Benzal, 97, died Wednesday, October 29th at Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in New York City on July 22, 1917, Alexander was the son of the late Paul and Mary Benzal. A graduate of Saratoga high School, he attended Schenectady College Center before enlisting in the United States Army. A career Army veteran, Alexander served during WWII, Korea and the Vietnam War. He retired with 30 years of service after receiving the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with 4 stars, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal with 2 stars and the Philippin Liberation Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars. After his retirement from the Army , Alexander worked for 27 years as an engineer at the radio station WROW/WYJB.

Predeceased by his sisters, Alice Korkosz and Grace Tyll, Alexander is survived by his brother Earl Benzal of Rotterdam and nephews Fred Korkosz and Stuart Benzal.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 5th at 11:30 am at Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Ave, Schenectady, NY. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, November 4th, 2014 from 5 to 7 pm. Interment in Saratoga National Cemetery with military honors.

Alexander's family would like to thank those at the VA and Baptist Health Center for there excellent care and professional service. Contribution to the Salvation Army may be made in Alexander's memory.
