Dove Emblem

Elizabeth Burr Abetti left us forever on October 19, 2014 at Ellis Hospital after a very brief illness. Born Elizabeth Burr Nelson in Durham, NC on November 4, 1928, she grew up there and in Cambridge, MA where she married her husband Professor Pier A. Abetti of RPI on June 11, 1948. She led a very full life, traveling in 49 countries and living in 12 with her husband. She was devoted to her two boys, seven grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren, was an amateur cellist and played in quartets in Schenectady, NY, Paris, Brussels, Tokyo and many other countries. In 1966 she published two books of intimate poetry: "Castle in the Air" and "The Ivory Tower." Survivors include her husband, her sons George Abetti of White River Junction, VT and Frank Abetti of Salem, CT; her grandchildren Rebekah Deitrich, Caleb Abetti, Sarah Brynelson, Annah Korpi, Joshua Abetti, Pauline Abetti, Jonathan Abetti, and their children. Following her wishes, there will not be a funeral ceremony. Later her friends will be invited to attend a memorial day at the home of her son George Abetti.
