Eugene "Gene" Wright, 93, died peacefully at his West Hill home in Rotterdam, NY on December 11. Born January 10, 1921 in Scotia, NY, Gene graduated from Scotia High School and earned an Engineering degree from UNH and a Masters from RPI. In 1943 he enlisted in the US Navy and served at Treasure Island in San Francisco, CA, where he instructed naval personnel in LORAN guidance systems. After his WWII service, he returned to Schenectady and settled his family at West Hill in a house of his own design and construction. Gene worked for General Electric for thirty years as engineer, consultant and manager in
the areas of missiles, aerospace, guidance systems and flight propulsion. In 1972 he left GE to found Wright-Malta Corporation, a weapons testing facility and incubator for new technologies including medical, energy and environmental solutions. Gene retired as president of Wright-Malta in 1986. Gene was a member of the board of directors of United Way of Saratoga County and served as president of the Galway Lake Campers Association and Commodore of the Galway Lake Sailing Club. Gene's lifetime passions included golf, sailboat racing and skiing. Gene was preceded in death earlier this year by Jane, his wife of 70 years. He is survived by daughters Diane Kremer of Cassopolis, MI, Susan Wright of Albany, NY, Barbara Wright of Santa Cruz, CA and son John Wright of Pattersonville, NY; 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Gene's youngest son, William Wright of Frankfort, NY, died in 2009. The family is grateful to the caregivers whose kindness and excellent service made both Gene's and Jane's final years comfortable and pleasant. A memorial gathering for Gene and Jane Wright is planned for the summer. Contributions can be made in Gene's memory to the Edison Tech Center or to the Wright-Malta exhibit at the Empire State Aerosciences Museum, both in Schenectady.
