Joseph P. Hughes, 70, of Schenectady, died early Monday, November 24, 2014 at Ellis Hospital.

Born in Brooklyn, Joseph was the son of the late Robert G. and Isabella (McGaffin) Hughes.

Joseph honorably served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He worked for many years as a court clerk for New York State.

Joseph was very involved in A.A. for over 20 years. He sponsored many individuals and was affectionately known as Huna.

Joseph loved to eat and loved to dance. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, sharp wit and his love of animals.

Besides his parents, Joseph is predeceased by his brother, Robert and his sisters, Patricia, Evelyn, Mary, Eileen and Geraldine.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Rosalie (Cooper) Hughes, whom he married on June 20, 1974. He also leaves behind his children, Michael T. Stevenson of Ocala, FL, Edmund K. Stevenson of England, Troy F. Stevenson (Iris) of Tampa, FL and Gail M. Hughes-Morey (Gary) of Schenectady, as well one brother, Edward Hughes (Ann) of Long Island and 2 grandchildren, Melissa M. Stevenson and Melanie M. Stevenson.

Funeral services for Joseph will be held Tuesday, December 2 at 10am at Bond Funeral Home, 1614 Guilderland Ave., Schenectady. A visitation will take place on Monday evening, December 1, from 5-7pm at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be at Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
