Willard M. Palmer, 88, of Rotterdam passed away on Wednesday October 22, 2014 at Ellis Hospital. Born and educated in West Fulton, NY, Willard was the son of the late Albert and Mary (Coons) Palmer. Willard honorably served his country in the US Air Force during World War II earning the rank of Major. He received the Distinguished Unit Badge, Air Medal with Oakleaf Clusters and a member of both the DAV and VFW. Willard worked as an estimator for Vogel VanLines and Schapp Movers in Albany for many years before his retirement. A member of Rotterdam United Methodist Church, he was an active volunteer for many church activities and served on churches Board of Directors where he was a former chairman. Predeceased by his son Robert Palmer earlier this year, He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Doris (Ellis) Palmer, as well as 3 grandchildren, Christopher Palmer, Jessica Grant and Brandon Grant, his great grandchildren, Ryan Palmer, Aleiyah Colon and Mariah Grant his brother, Millard Palmer (Doris) of Washington, DC and his daughter-in-law, Carol Palmer of Scotia . Funeral services for Willard will take place on Tuesday October 28th at 10:30 am at Rotterdam United Methodist Church, 1915 Helderberg Ave., Schenectady. Calling hours will be held on Monday evening October 27th from 5 to 7 pm at Bond Funeral Home, 1614 Guilderland Ave., Schenectady, NY 12306. Interment with military honors will be in Schenectady Memorial Park, Rotterdam. Contributions may be made in Willard's Memory to a charity of one's choice.
