Robert A. Kmetz, 87 years young, passed away on February 17, 2012 in his home in Scotia, NY. He was born and raised in Yonkers, New York. Graduate of Roosevelt High School, Robert was a decorated Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific and the Philippines. He retired as a Sergeant from Westchester County Parkway Police then became a farmer in upstate NY and also worked in plant safety and security.
His two daughters and three grandsons survive him. Judith and her husband, Selwyn Harlow Jr. and their sons Daniel and Kent of Burnt Hills, and Roberta and William Russ and their son Kurtis and the late Nicholas Russ of Orchard Park, NY. Also survived by his sister Margaret and husband, John Sahadia as well as several beloved nieces and nephews. His dear wife of 57 years, Mildred Kmetz and brother Alfred Kmetz predeceased him. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, love of history, philosophy, good food, passionate politics and worldviews but most of all his love for his family. Funeral services and interment will be conducted at the Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery on March 2, 2012 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Robert's memory to Schenectady Community Hospice, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308. .
